Lessons... and Fish and Chips

Well, today was definitely a learning day, and class hasn’t even started yet. 

First, I learned was that there has been free internet in my room all along, I just needed to ask for the Ethernet cable (insert banging head against wall here). 

I have also discovered that group activities could get very annoying soon. Let me explain. 

We had a lovely tour of our immediate neighborhood with the British version of a 'mentor'. On said tour, I met 4 of the other students here for photocomm. We stopped to have a bite to eat and to talk for a moment before heading back to the dorm (good sandwich, not worth three pounds). 

A few of use decided we needed to get our Oyster cards (for the metro- why oyster you ask... I have no clue) and that we may as well go together once we retrieved our cash from the hall. We started congregating in my room (think sardines) and met two more of our group who had arrived after the tour started. They decided to join our oyster fetching group and all seven of us headed out. 

After getting our oyster cards it turned into a: 'lets wander' situation. Don’t get me wrong, I love wandering- we’re in LONDON! There are so many things I want to photograph, pretty much everything is new and cool to me. Unfortunately, the two new additions have already been abroad for months and were in speed mode. 

No time to stop. 

No time for photos. 

It was really depressing to be in London, with so much history, and architecture, and people and not be able to enjoy it! Fortunately before I lost my temper they decided to stop at a pub and get something to eat and drink. Fish and chips are pretty good. However, I’ll look like a beach ball if I eat them often. The portions are HUGE! (and fried perfectly...) (and go very well with a glass of hard cider. Yum!)

Sadly, the fried food didn’t slow them down a bit on the way back, and this time they were talking about their previous travels so much that they got lost. 

Very lost. 

But still no slowing down. 

The only good news about getting lost is that after they finally pulled out the map we passed Kings Cross station on the way back (that’s the cool looking building you can see out of my window). 

The detail is amazing, I can't image how it must look when it is not being renovated.

So the sum of today is that:

1. I have free internet (you'll never be rid of me now!).

2. I could easily become the first human beach ball if I stayed in this city for too long (horrible mental picture).

3. I get crabby when not allowed to play with cameras (ok- no big surprise there)

Wow- 3 posts in a day. Sorry 'bout that. Class begins tomorrow, so I doubt I'll have that opportunity again. Off to Tesco to get something to drink. And maybe some more of that fruit...
